CINCINNATI -- University of Connecticut football players will wear the No. 77 on their helmets on Saturday to honor UC's fallen Bearcat, Ben Flick.
On Thursday morning, UCONN football coach, TJ Weist, tweeted out a picture of a helmet with a "77" sticker on the back of it and posted, "We will wear a 77 sticker on our helmets Sat to honor Cinci OL Ben Flick who passed away earlier this season."
This year's homecoming game may be a little different than those in the past. Both teams will mourn the loss of players.
Tommy Tuberville and the entire UC football team have been doing their best to recover from the recent loss of freshman offensive lineman, Ben Flick.
Flick, 19, passed away on Sept. 21 after a car crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Mark Barr and Javon Harrison, both wide receivers for UC, were life-flighted to UC Medical Center. Both Barr and Harrison survived the crash. A student from Miami University also died in the crash.
Saturday's meeting is the closest game to the one-month anniversary of Flick's death.
Four years ago on Oct. 18, 20-year-old UCONN cornerback, Jasper Howard, was stabbed to death outside of the student union. Howard was a father-to-be.
The anniversary of his death falls one day before UCONN makes their way to Cincinnati.
UC won their first game last week since the death of Flick. Cincy beat out Temple 38-20. UCONN has yet to win a game this season.
UC is three for four against UCONN, beating out the Huskies in 2012, 2011, and in 2009.
UC will celebrate homecoming on Saturday, Oct. 19th against the Huskies beginning at noon. Events beginning at 8 a.m. and gates opening to Nippert Stadium at 10:30 a.m. If you can't make it to the game, it's available to watch on ESPNU.
The team will display another uniform change - the seventh combo in seven games. On Saturday, UC will wear a black helmet, black jersey and white pants. Students and visitors are encouraged to wear black.
Athletic Director, Whit Babcock said they are expecting the stadium to, yet again, fill with over 30,000 people. Nippert Stadium reaches capacity at 35,000 visitors.
