The University of Cincinnati football program has accepted a bid to play Duke University in the Belk Bowl on Dec. 27, 2012 at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, N.C.
"We are pleased to accept a bid to the Belk Bowl," head coach Butch Jones said. "We are excited by the prospect of a great number of Cincinnati fans being the team behind the team and helping us celebrate the holiday season in Charlotte."
The Bearcats (9-3, 5-2 Big East) clinched their fourth Big East title in five years Saturday with a decisive victory over UConn. UC is the only NCAA FBS automatic-qualifying team in the country to accomplish that feat. The Bearcats have gone 19-6 over the past two season and won back-to-back Big East titles.
Cincinnati will be playing in its 14th bowl game overall and sixth in the past seven seasons. UC is 7-6 all-time in postseason games. The Bearcats defeated Vanderbilt in the 2011 AutoZone Liberty Bowl.
This will be UC's first-ever trip to the Belk Bowl.
Duke finished the season with a 6-6 overall record, including a 3-5 mark in the ACC.
The Blue Devils won six of their first eight games. They beat rival North Carolina 33-30 to become bowl eligible, but lost their final four contests. Coach David Cutcliffe was named the 2012 ACC Coach of the Year and nine Blue Devils earned All-ACC recognition.
