OXFORD, Ohio -

It was a long rain soaked drive over to Yager Stadium for Miami's annual Red & White Spring Game but by the time we got there the rain had let up and the RedHawks got in four quarters of football in front of about 200 fans.

There was defense played but the talented duo of seniors Nick Harwell and Zac Dysert picked up from where they left off in the fall of 2011. Dysert rolled right on the first play of the day and hit Harwell over the middle for a 48 yard gain and they were off and running.

Zac was 11 of 15 for 214 yards and a touchdown to Harwell just before the half. Harwell finished with 6 receptions for 138 yards and that TD. The two have a connection that not even coach Treadwell can explain.

"It's not necessarily by choice that it always happens," said coach Treadwell. "Zac does a great job of just reading the plays and he obviously has a little bit more freedom this year with the things we do offensively because of his ability to adjust certain things at the line of scrimmage. And that's an advantage of any veteran quarterback and he demonstrated that today as well."

And when Zac took a break, redshirt freshman Drew Kummer (LaSalle) shined. He was 9 of 17 for 135 yards and a nice touchdown pass over the middle to Jake Wurzelbacher (Badin) just before the game ended. Kummer caught the eye of head coach Don Treadwell.

"I think it was nice to see Kummer get a couple drives under his belt and some completions," said Treadwell. "He had a little bit of heat in his face at times in terms of blitzes and I thought he did a good job of recognizing some things that we have been looking through."

Today's game concluded spring practice that started way back on March 26 and it was a positive finish for the RedHawks.
