Bearcat Spring Practice starts

The Cincinnati Bearcats went into their Jefferson Avenue bubble today and got after it. It was the first time they could practice since the 28-10 loss to Pittsburgh last December 4 at Nippert Stadium in the snow.

That ended the season for the Cats at 4-8 with no bowl game, something they had not felt for three years under head coach Brian Kelly. But Kelly is long gone to Notre Dame and Butch Jones is starting his second season at Cincinnati and these kids mean business.

“I think they understand what’s at stake. It’s all about being champions in 2011 with everything we do. So they understand the standard and expectations that is associated with it and what a difference a year makes. We come out here and players know where to go, the effort involved, so they understand what’s at stake” said Butch.

We know the Bearcats will put up points on the scoreboard with an experienced offensive line leading the way for senior Isaiah Pead. Senior quarterback Zach Collaros will be running the show with DJ Woods catching passes with many new additions to the wide receiving corps.

The big question will be how will the defense respond after finishing last in the Big East in points allowed in 2010? They have a majority of that defense back from last year and while another year of experience is good, you still need talent to win.
