CINCINNATI -- Joey Votto really wasn't happy with a fan who likely prevented an out on Tuesday night when the Reds played the Cardinals at Great American Ballpark.

Watch the video below to see for yourself:

After an awkward struggle (of sorts) as the fan -- an adult, by the way -- and Votto both tried to catch the foul ball outside the first base line, Votto grabbed the fan's shirt by the Cincinnati Reds logo, looked down at it, then walks away.

But Votto later apologized and gave the fan a signed baseball that said "Thanks for being so understanding when I acted out of character." They even posed for a photo together.

Votto infamously lost his cool in May and September of the 2015 season. In May 2015, Votto "bumped" an umpire after the ump ejected him for throwing his helmet and bat out of frustration after a strikeout. He was fined and suspended for one game. At the time, he said he thought the punishment was fair.

In September, Votto threw a fit at home plate after an umpire refused his request for a timeout after two strikes. Votto admitted to using profanity, but said he didn't spit on the umpire (as rumored) and didn't bump him. Votto and manager Bryan Price were both ejected from the game; Votto was suspended for two games, but he successfully appealed the second game suspension.

"Did I overreact? Yeah, I did overreact," Votto said. "But I felt so compelled and was in such an intense place. Who's to decide how angry I'm allowed to get as long as I follow the rules? I didn't touch him.

"I disagree with the suspension. I disagree with the ejection."
