SPARTA, Ky. - Simmering drivers in overheating cars, all vying for an open lane and struggling to get out of heavy traffic -- and that was just the fans on the way to Kentucky Speedway a year ago.

Designed to be a showcase of big-time racing in the commonwealth, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race instead was a fiasco.

Some may remember that Kyle Busch won. But almost everybody recalls the long lines of angry drivers who sat for hours in traffic, many eventually forced to turn around and go home.

Now the stock cars have returned. Officials have taken major steps to make sure the problems have been alleviated. And the drivers vow that they'll do their part to help the fans forget all that went wrong off from the track.

TRAFFIC UPDATES:

10:46 p.m.- all traffic has been released and can now leave the Speedway.

10:40 p.m.- At the conclusion of the Quaker State 400, all traffic will be held for 30 minutes to allow for safe pedestrian travel back to their vehicles. All infield traffic will be held for 90 minutes. Updates on the traffic leaving the race way will follow.

6:45 p.m. - There are still a few vehicles coming into the track. There are no traffic issues. The driver introductions are about to begin. The race is schedule to begin at 7:30. Outbound traffic after the race will likely be more dense than earlier in the day. Delays can be expected. Drivers are advised to be patient.

5:45 p.m. - There are no traffic issues to report. There are no delays or backups as traffic continues to flow into the Speedway.

5:15 p.m. - There are no issues with traffic. There continue to be no backups or delays. People are starting to make their ways into the stands for the concert and race. The race is scheduled to start in just over two hours.

4:45 p.m. - Th ere are no traffic issues. There are no backups or delays to report in any direction.

4:15 p.m. - All traffic is flowing smoothly into and around the Kentucky Speedway. There are no backups or delays on any roads. There is still a steady flow of vehicles arriving to the track.

3:15 p.m. - Traffic is moving well on all roads coming into the track. Traffic has picked back up a little bit from an hour ago. There are no backups or delays on any road leading into the Speedway. The race begins in a little over four hours.

2:45 p.m. - There is no new information to update.

2:15 p.m. - Traffic coming into the track is light at this time. There are no delays or backups to report.

1:45 p.m. - Traffic is flowing smoothly into the Speedway. There are no backups or delays to report. We want to encourage all drivers coming to the track to utilize all exit lanes from I-71 and all lanes going into the track.

1:15 p.m. - There are no changes to note. Traffic is still flowing and there are no backups or delays. We want to again note that ADA parking has moved to the Ford Lots across KY 35 from the Speedway. Those lots can be accessed by taking exit 57.

12:45 p.m. - Traffic is still moving into the Speedway at a steady pace. There are no delays or backups to report at this time. We have been informed that the ramp to I-71 South from I-75 North is closed. Those wanting to access I-71 South need to go to the Richwood exit, exit number 175, and then come back south to access I-71.

11:45 a.m. - Traffic is moving in from all directions. There are no backups or delays to report.

11:15 a.m. - Traffic is still flowing very smoothly. There is no backup anywhere around the track or on the interstate. Multiple lots are being utilized to park the cars which is helping get a lot of cars in quickly. Troopers and parking attendants in the lots and getting the cars in and parked efficiently.

10:45 a.m. - Traffic is beginning to pick up coming into the track. There is an increased flow of traffic from both the 57 and 55 exit. There are no backups or delays to report.

10:15 a.m. - Traffic is still coming into the track at a steady pace. There are no backups or delays to report any roadway.

9:45 a.m. - Traffic is flowing into the Speedway at a steady pace. All inbound lanes are being utilized on KY 35 and there is no backup to report.
