CINCINNATI - The Cincinnati area is rich in creativity and bright ideas. Many artists, community activists and entrepreneurs are ready to run with projects and programs, and they’re turning to crowdfunding sites to fuel their ideas.
We highlight two projects that are underway and asking for your support.
Can a stylish hoodie help a local designer warm up the local arts scene? Will a documentary about the decisions we make in life put youth on the straight and narrow? Two local crowdfunding project organizers hope the answers to both questions is yes.

Platform: Kickstarter.com Started: February 23, 2014 Goal: $750 Project By: Michael Callahan
Cincy Hype Winter Hoodie Line aims at simple yet stylish fashion that allows customers to represent the city while keeping warm and looking good. Callahan said he hopes that the clothing line will help open the eyes of residents to the new art movement of students and skate boarders in the city. He also takes great pride in the fact that it’s a locally owned and operated business, run out of the Delhi area.
Callahan added that if funded, he does not plan to stop at the initial line. He hopes to one day make Cincy Hype into a platform for other Cincinnati artists to showcase their music, photography, paintings, or videos in the form of a blog or website, as well as hosting art shows and concerts.
Why should people support Cincy Hype Winter Hoodie Line?
Michael Callhan says: “First off, you get a product to show your LOVE for the city without any major company marketing or sports team, just Cincinnati. Second off, you are supporting both Cincy Hype and the printing company I use (Meder’s screen printing) both which are local companies. If I do reach my goal, it will help me fund my first major run of apparel for my supports and keep the ball rolling for a Spring/Summer line. I will also host my first Cincy Hype art show with local artists for all the supporters if the goal is reached.”

Platform: Kickstarter.com Started: February 27, 2014 Goal: $10,000 Project By: Ronald Hummons
Ronald Hummons’ documentary, "When I was a Child," tells the haunting story of how bad decisions can not only change a person’s life, but also destroy their dreams.
Filmed in Ohio, "When I was a Child," tells the story of six adults struggling with alcoholism, drug addiction, prostitution, and homelessness. The film walks viewers through these individual’s lives from childhood dreams to adulthood reality.
Hummons said he hopes the film will give children and young adults an opportunity to see how some of the choices they are making could put them on a path of self-destruction. His inspiration for the film came from growing up in Over-the-Rhine and watching the adults in his life spend their days abusing drugs and alcohol instead of pursuing goals and finding success.
Why should people support "When I Was a Child?"
Ronald Hummons says: “I believe my project tells everyone’s story of when they were a child. We all had dreams when we were a kid, unfortunately for some of us, those dreams never made it to fruition and our lives took a different spin.”
