SPRINGFIELD TWP, Ohio - Students at a Tri-State school spent this Veterans Day raising funds to help send local vets to Washington D.C.

Whitaker Elementary students sold American flags and ran booths and games at their school located on Winton Road in Finneytown to raise money for Honor Flight Tri-State. The organization raises funds to send veterans to the nation's capital to see the war memorials and monuments.

"It's a way that we wanted to help sponsor veterans to go on Honor Flight which is an organization that sends World War II veterans and Korean veterans to Washington DC for the day to see the war memorials," Whitaker teacher Doug Dirr said.

Students, teachers and staff at the Whitaker Elementary are placing flags outside the front of the school to honor veterans.
