ATHENS, Ohio - Athens city police say they arrested 45 people, mostly for alcohol violations, during Ohio University's annual Halloween block party.

City police said 13 OU students were arrested during the annual costume bash in uptown Athens Saturday night and early Sunday. Another 13 were students from other colleges, and 19 were non-students.

Disorderly conduct by intoxication topped the list of charges. One person was arrested for assaulting a police horse.

The Ohio Investigative Unit, which enforces alcohol laws, cited or arrested another 55 people for offenses such as underage drinking. The number of arrests by Ohio University police was not available.

Athens police said ambulance crews responded to 53 calls for assistance during the event.
