WATCH: Fight breaks out in stands, on field during Ohio football game

GARFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio - Three people were arrested Friday night following a fight during a high school football game in northeastern Ohio.

Police say the fight likely started in the stands in the third quarter of the Garfield Heights-Collinwood game in Garfield Heights, Ohio. Then players from the two teams began fighting, as seen in the three-minute YouTube video below.

The game was canceled out of fear for player's safety.

Five people were initially apprehended but two were later released. Those arrested are charged with disorderly conduct.

Police believe the fight broke out after a player was injured. He was taken to the hospital.

Garfield Heights Schools released a statement saying they are looking into which students were involved in the fight and say safety is a top priority.

The statement continued:

Because the safety and security of every person who attends co-curricular activities at the Garfield Heights City Schools is of the utmost importance, district officials, game officials and security personnel made the decision to cancel the game instantaneously. Local officials took appropriate action, and the community can rest assured knowing that those students of the Garfield Heights City Schools who were involved will be swiftly and appropriately dealt with by the district.

Police from Cuyahoga Heights and Maple Heights were called to assist at the scene.
