DAYTON, Ohio -- A Dayton Democrat is joining Ed FitzGerald’s quest to become Ohio’s next governor.
According to the Hamilton Journal-News , local lawyer Sharen Neuhardt will be FitzGerald’s running mate.
The pair is scheduled to kick off the campaign with an event in downtown Dayton at 4 p.m. Saturday.
The Journal-News said Neuhardt is a business lawyer who ran fro Congress in 2008 against Rep. Steve Austria and in 2012 against Rep. Mike Turner. She lost both times.
Neuhardt said she’s joining the ticket because she believes in FitzGerald, Ohio’s economy is faltering under Kasich and the GOP-controlled Legislature is doing harm to women’s health issues.
In an email to supporters, FitzGerald said Neuhardt shares his commitment to “bolstering the middle class and restoring economic security to Ohio’s families.”
He said Neuhardt would also champion women’s health and fight against attempts to restrict health care services.
FitzGerald’s campaign said Neuhardt is the daughter of a police officer and sales clerk who was the first member of her family to go to college. She works as a business attorney in Dayton.
