SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (AP) -- A portion of a highway has been dedicated to a deputy fatally shot in 2011 in southwest Ohio.

The Springfield News-Sun (http://bit.ly/17a0rvF ) reports that a portion of Interstate 70 was formally dedicated Friday as the Deputy Suzanne Hopper Memorial Highway.

The Clark County deputy was killed on New Year's Day 2011 after responding to a report of shots fired at a trailer park in Enon.

Hopper's husband, Matt, received a proclamation from the governor and a miniature plaque of the signs denoting the memorial.

The gunman who killed Hopper died in a shootout with officers at the trailer park. Michael Ferryman had been accused of shooting at officers in 2001, but was found not guilty by reason of insanity. He lived in a mental institution before receiving a conditional release.
