COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A Democratic state lawmaker from Columbus is expected to formalize plans to challenge Republican Ohio Auditor Dave Yost in 2014.
Three-term state Rep. John Patrick Carney has set a Tuesday news conference at a firefighters' union hall to make a "special announcement."
The 37-year-old Carney has been an outspoken opponent of the agenda of Ohio Gov. John Kasich and his fellow Republicans, including proposed limits on public sector unions that represent safety forces. He sits on the powerful House Finance Committee and is the highest-ranking Democrat on the House Insurance Committee.
Carney is a lawyer at Porter, Wright, Morris and Arthur LLP, counseling clients on health care issues.
Yost, elected in 2010, has taken on his own party, including subpoenaing financial records of Kasich's privatized job-creation entity, JobsOhio.
