CLEVELAND - Cleveland Mayor Frank G. Jackson has issued a statement regarding the death of Ariel Castro.
“Our focus remains on the well-being of the survivors of Seymour Avenue. It is our sincere hope that they will continue to heal and recover. I ask the community to continue to respect the privacy of the survivors so that they can move forward with their lives.”
Castro was found hanged Tuesday night in his prison cell. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Sources connected to the investigation tell Scripps sister station NewsChannel5 in Cleveland he hanged himself using a bed sheet.
Castro pleaded guilty to kidnapping and raping Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus, and Michelle Knight, then was sentenced to life in prison without parole, plus 1,000 years.
