Prosecutor: Ind. man to admit his role in the death of a 1-year-old

RISING SUN, Ind. -- A southeastern Indiana prosecutor says a man faces 50 years in prison under a plea deal in connection with the beating death of his girlfriend's 1-year-old son.

Ohio County Prosecutor Aaron Negangard posted on Facebook Wednesday that 27-year-old Brian Woeste of Ohio County will admit one count of neglect of a dependent resulting in death under the deal.

Woeste had faced murder and battery charges after the January 2012 death of Nolan Helfrich of Rising Sun. An autopsy found the boy died from blunt force trauma to the head, neck, and torso. Woeste was babysitting the boy at the time.

A receptionist for Woeste's attorney says he was unavailable for comment Wednesday.

Negangard says formal sentencing before Ohio Circuit Judge James Humphrey is scheduled for Nov. 15.
