Police warn public to be wary of meth lab remnants

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- Indiana State Police are warning residents to be wary of trash left behind by people who make methamphetamine, saying it may be toxic, flammable, corrosive and acidic.

State police say with more people heading outside because of warmer weather, there is an increasing chance of someone coming across dangerous chemicals. Police say people should be careful of 1.5 gallon gas cans on the side of the road because they could contain a mix of chemicals to make meth.

Other items they say to stay away from are battery casings, transparent plastic storage bags, empty blister packs, and soda bottles and other containers that have a granular material. They also say to be aware of cylinders found in odd places, saying they could be to store or transport anhydrous ammonia.
