Ohio gets 1st horse track with slots-like gambling

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - A central Ohio horse racing track is the first such facility in the state to debut new slots-like gambling machines.

Ohio is expanding the use of video lottery terminals at several horse tracks. Scioto Downs outside Columbus was the first to be granted a permanent license to operate the terminals. Its gambling operations were slated to open Friday with more than 2,000 terminals.

Officials estimated they would generate about $3 million per month in revenue for the state.

The Chester, W.Va.-based MTR Gaming Group Inc. operates the track. It already opened the racing season there.
