Man 'walks the walk' for Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight

CINCINNATI - A Cleveland man came to Cincinnati Saturday to "walk the walk" in order to keep a promise he made to the three women who were allegedly held captive by Ariel Castro.

Alex Sheen, of Lakewood, Ohio, will take off from the Friendship Park in downtown Cincinnati around 7 p.m. and begin a 240-mile trek on foot to Cleveland. He's expected to arrive at his destination June 25 at approximately 10 p.m.

He is making the 10-day journey to raise funds for Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight, the three women allegedly held captive and sexually abused for more than 10 years by Ariel Castro.

The women were freed on Sheen's birthday, May 6, which he said changed him forever.

Two days after the dramatic happenings in northeast Ohio, Sheen decided he wanted to make a difference by spreading awareness about sexual violence.

During his journey, he will perform several "random acts of kindness" to show victims that there people out there who do care about them and what they've gone through.

Performing charitable acts isn't outside the norm for Sheen, who is the founder of "Because I Said I Would," a social movement dedicated to encouraging people to create positive changes in society and perform acts of kindness.

What is outside the norm for Sheen is walking long distances. He said the longest race in which he has ever participated was a 5K (3.1 miles).

Sheen is asking that people make donations for his effort, which will go to benefit the Cleveland Courage Fund, a trust fund established for the Cleveland women.

Every $10 donation will be split 50/50 between the Cleveland Courage trust fund for Amanda, Gina and Michelle and the other 50 percent will help support RAINN , the nation's largest anti-sexual violence organization.
