LAWRENCEBURG, Ind. - More than a 100 people gathered for a candle light vigil Sunday evening to honor Army Pfc. Brett Bondurant of Lawrenceburg who lost both his legs last month while serving his country in Afghanistan.
Through song, prayer and a few speeches from family members, the community came together to show Bondurant, who is hospitalized in Texas, that his hometown thanks him for his courage and sacrifice.
"This community has done so much for not only my grandson but for all the soldiers, men and women, in harms way," Bondurant's grandfather Jerry Bondurant said.
The 20-year-old is expected to be discharged Oct. 27 and married Nov. 5. His family says he will continue to live in Texas for the next 18 months and will go through an extensive physical therapy program.
