FORT MITCHELL, Ky. - The Fourth of July parade in Fort Mitchell took on a somber tone this year as the community remembered the loss of one of its own.

Michelle Mockbee was found murdered May 29 at her job in Florence at the Thermo Fisher Scientific facility, located at 7383 Empire Drive.

In reaction to her death, Remke Bigg's has transformed its annual cookout into a fundraiser to benefit the family Mockbee left behind.

A mother and a wife, she left behind her husband and two young daughters.

"When something as tragic as this happens within our community, it's important that we all rally to support those who have been affected," Remke Bigg's community relations director Connie Flynn said. "Remke Bigg's understands the importance of spearheading this fundraiser and we look forward to celebrating the Fourth of July and collecting for a great cause at the same time."

All the proceeds from the holiday cookout will go toward care and education for Mockbee's two children.

Mockbee's murder remains unsolved. If you have any information call Crime Stoppers at (513) 352-3040.
