SOUTHGATE, Ky. - A sinkhole 5-feet deep closed Blossom Lane near Alexandria Pike in Southgate Thursday morning and stranded residents in 200 homes for hours.

The road was reopened late in the afternoon.

The sinkhole was caused by a water main break. Repairs to the water line and the road were expected to take five hours.

Blossom Lane is the only way in and out of a subdivision that includes Fairway Drive, Brushwood Drive, Bonnie Lynn Terrace, Valleyview Drive, Tracy Lane and Heather Hill Drive.

Police and fire officials made contingency plans so residents would have access to emergency services.

Blossom Lane also runs through the golf course at Highland Country Club, but access to the country club from Alexandria Pike remained open.
