Whether you love cooking, traveling, crafting or fashion, chances are you have a collection of photos, articles, recipes and pamphlets to remind you of your latest projects to conquer. But as with everything these days, there is a website to help you collect and organize these things and it's called "Pinterest."
Pinterest is taking the country by storm. Many people can't get away from it because the ways you can use it are pretty much endless. You can organize a wedding, party or get together with food, design, and decor ideas; or create a collection of photos of places you'd like to travel to someday. Whatever interest you have, there is something for you.
Right now you have to be invited by a current user to sign up for an account, (it will take a few days for them to "accept" you) and then you can get to work. Here are a few suggestions to get you started:
1. Create specific 'boards' when you start Boards are basically an online cork board where you can collect things that belong in a specific category. If you like to cook, you may want to create a board for parties and get-togethers and one for family dinners. This will keep the 2 separate, so you won't have to sort through a big group to find what you are looking for at the moment.
2. Start pinning Once you have created a board, you can get to work gathering images to place on it. You do this by searching in the upper left corner of the screen. Once you have the search results, find what you like and click "repin." This will bring up all of the "boards" you have created and you can select which one you'd like it to be pinned to. Once you have done this click "pin it" and you're done. You also have the option of "liking" and commenting on a photo, much like you do on Facebook.
3. Following friends If you have a friend and you love their crafting projects you should follow them, but that doesn't mean you have to follow all of their boards, you can pick and choose which ones you like. When you first sign up Pinterest will help you find people to follow by using your Facebook and twitter contacts, and you will automatically follow them. To edit this list click on "following" above your profile photo. This will bring up a list of the people you are following, from there you can click "unfollow" or click on their Pinterest page and click "unfollow all." This will de-select all of their boards allowing you to "follow" the ones you like. As your friends add and pin to their page, they will show up when you log in to your account much like the newsfeed on Facebook.
