CINCINNATI -- Three OVI checkpoints will be placed throughout the Tri-State area Friday night to deter impaired drivers.
The OVI ( operating a vehicle while intoxicated) checkpoints will be placed in Cincinnati, Monroe and Wilmington Friday, police said.
OVI checkpoint locations are based on a statistical analysis of problem areas.
The Cincinnati checkpoint will be located in the 2700 block of River Road from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Since July 1, 2012, police said 26 OVI-related crashes have happened in this area, including one that resulted in a serious injury. Cincinnati police have made 58 OVI arrests in that block since that date.
The Monroe checkpoint will be located on Cincinnati-Dayton Road near Todhunter Road from 8:30 p.m. until 1:30 a.m.
Fairfield police said officers and troopers will aggressively combat alcohol-related crashes by combining the checkpoint with saturation patrols.
The Wilmington/Clinton County checkpoints will be located at US-68 near SR-134, from 7 to 9 p.m...
...and US-22 near Progress Way from 10 p.m. to 12 a.m.
OVI checkpoints, funded by federal grant funds, are planned to deter and intercept impaired drivers.
