NKY mayor indicted in theft case

WALTON, Ky. -- Walton mayor and former Boone County Water District manager Phil Trzop will be back in court Wednesday.

Trzop is due before a judge for a pretrial hearing.

He is accused of abuse of public trust after police said he stole from the water district.

Trzop was suspended without pay from his role at the water district.

nvestigators say Trzop sold scrap metal acquired during water line repairs and then kept some of the profits.

The water district sold more than $30,000 in scrap metal over the past three years, money that should have been put in Boone County's general fund. Deputies said Trzop used much of the money to pay his employees Christmas bonuses, however, $10,000 was unaccounted for until Trzop confessed to have some of it at his home.

If convicted, he faces five to 10 years in prison. He is currently out of jail on bond.
