Robert Schierer charged with causing life-threatening injuries to 3-month-old child

CRESCENT SPRINGS, Ky. -- A 23-year-old Northern Kentucky man is behind bars after police say he caused life-threatening injuries to his infant child.

Northern Kentucky emergency crews responded to a home in the 2400 block of Horton Street in Crescent Springs at about 10 a.m. Tuesday after receiving reports that a 3-month-old child was not breathing.

After arriving at the scene, crews administered CPR and then transported the child to St. Elizabeth--Edgewood to be treated for various injuries including a fractured skull, according to the Erlanger Police Department.

The child was then airlifted to Cincinnati Children's Hospital. As of Thursday night, the child remained on life support at the hospital, according to the Erlanger Police Department.

Police documents show the infant's father, 23-year-old Robert Schierer, was arrested around 7 p.m. Tuesday by Erlanger police. He is charged with first-degree assault, based on the severity of the infant's injury.

Investigators say Schierer displayed "extreme indifference to the value of the child's life."

He is being held at the Kenton County Detention Center on $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court Nov. 20.
