HEBRON, Ky. - A Northern Kentucky man was arrested Monday for attempting to carry a loaded handgun on to a flight headed to Atlanta.
According to Boone County Prosecutor Robert Neace, William J. Rice Jr. of Union, Ky. was arrested on Monday for carrying a concealed deadly weapon into Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky International Airport. Rice posted bond on those charges and is scheduled to appear in court on June 4.
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA), reported Rice carried a .380 caliber handgun, loaded with six rounds, in carry-on luggage. Rice was preparing to board a flight bound for Atlanta.
Airport police handled the arrest of Rice, according to a TSA spokesperson. A spokesperson for the airport police department declined to identify the man arrested on Tuesday, saying it was not their policy to do so.
The TSA does permit travel with firearms in checked baggage if the weapons are properly packaged and declared, according to the TSA website, but not in a carry-on.
