FRANKFORT, Ky. – Louisville businessman Matt Bevin has begun airing a TV ad attacking Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell, telling Kentucky voters they deserve better than the five-term incumbent.
The ad started Wednesday morning, just hours before Bevin was scheduled to formally announce his GOP primary challenge to McConnell at a news conference in Frankfort.
Bevin, a Louisville investment adviser, will face a five-term incumbent in McConnell, a politician known for his fundraising prowess and his no-holds-barred campaign style.
McConnell is scheduled to begin an ad of his own Wednesday attacking Bevin for accepting a $200,000 taxpayer bailout for a company he owns in Connecticut. The ad calls him "Bailout Bevin."
The winner of the McConnell-Bevin matchup will likely face Democratic State Alison Lundergan Grimes in next year's general election.
