Driver turns self in after fatal crash

WALTON, Ky. - Police say a local man turned himself in to authorities around 3 p.m. Monday after a fatal crash claimed the lives of his two female passengers over the weekend.

Logan Ellis, 22, of Nancy, Ky. was arrested and charged with two counts of murder, D.U.I. (aggravated) and no insurance.

According to police, Ellis was driving southbound on U.S. 25 in a 2000 Chevrolet Malibu when he lost control of the vehicle, ran off the road and struck a utility pole. The car split into two pieces as a result of the impact.

One of the passengers was ejected from the car, and the other was found in the backseat. Both were pronounced dead at the scene. The victims were identified as Heather Stanley, 21, and Stacy Hopkins, 43, both of Dry Ridge, Ky.

Ellis was treated for non life-threatening injuries at University Hospital.

Police have not released any other information at this time.

The accident remains under investigation.
