FLORENCE, Ky. -- A 34-year-old Boone County man is charged with using social media and gifts to lure minors into sending him nude photos of themselves.
Robert Legner, 34, of Florence was arrested at about 12:40 p.m. Thursday after a five-week investigation by the Boone County Sheriff's Office.
Investigators say the Oakwood Drive resident reached out to his victims using social media apps including Kik, Instagram and Facebook. He then talked to them in a sexual manner and convinced them to send him nude photos of themselves, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office.
In one case he's accused of giving a 15-year-old boy cigarettes, a cellphone and rides in his car in exchange for photos.
A search of his electronic equipment revealed several hundred videos and photos of child porn, Boone County public information officer Tom Scheben said.
It's unclear how many victims are involved.
Legner is charged multiple crimes including possession of matter portraying sexual performance by a minor, distribution of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor, first degree unlawful transaction with a minor, third degree unlawful transaction with a minor and unlawful use of electronic means within the Commonwealth to induce a minor to engage in sexual or other prohibited activities.
The suspect is housed in the Boone County Detention Center in lieu of a $20,000 cash bond.
