HEBRON, Ky. - A 7-year-old girl is dead after drowning in a pool at an apartment complex in Northern Kentucky Monday evening.
The incident happened around 5:21 p.m. in the 3000 block of Country Court Place at the Country Place Apartments in Hebron, Ky.
Luisana Cruz, 7, was found unresponsive on the bottom of a 5-foot-deep pool, according to officials. Bystanders removed her and performed CPR on the child. A sheriff's deputy arrived on the scene and assisted with CPR until fire crews arrived.
Cruz was then transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Florence, Ky., where she later died.
Police say the pool has signs that state no lifeguard is on duty.
"It is my understanding there is a sign posted that says there is no lifeguard. Most of the complexes have those posted like that. So in a way you are taking it at your own risk. But obviously, as a parent with small children, be alert and be aware of what is going on at all times," said Mike Fronimos of the Hebron Fire Protection District.
No other details have been released at this time.
The incident remains under investigation.
