Graeter's on Monday announced that eight locations in Kentuckywill close this week after the company ended its franchise contractwith Elsmere-based International Brand Services, LLC.
Of the eight locations slated to close on Friday, Dec. 3, fourof them are in Northern Kentucky.
The stores that will close are:
* 301 Buttermilk Pike, Ft. Mitchell * 1409 North Grand Avenue, Newport * 342 Monmouth St., Newport * 8860 US Highway 42, Florence * 325 Romany Road, Lexington * 3090 Helmsdale Place, Lexington * 3735 Harrodsburg Road, Lexington * 4101 Tates Creek Centre Drive, Lexington
“We want our Kentucky customers to know that we remaincommitted to them,” stated CEO Richard Graeter.
Although specific details have not been determined,Graeter’s plans to open company-owned retail locations inKentucky early next year, which could include reopening stores inthe same locations operated by its former franchisee.
Richard Graeter told 9 News the owner of International BrandServices was having financial problems and had been trying to sellthe franchises since the summer.
Graeter said the company wants to reopen some of the stores inthe same locations by the spring. He said the issue is working withbanks and International Brand Services to secure leases andownership of properties.
The reopened locations could include the return of bakeryitems.
All Graeter's gift cards can still be redeemed at its otherretail locations regardless of where they were purchased.
Customers will also still be able to purchase Graeter's icecream in the Northern Kentucky and Lexington grocery stores thatcarry the product, including Kroger, Remke, bigg's and Meijer.
