CINCINNATI - Donations for the family of slain pizzeria owner Richard Evans have topped $40,000, and more fundraisers are in the works.

Online donations have surpassed $38,000, and a cookout at Hartwell Kroger Sunday raised $2,295, according to Dawn Murray, a friend and neighbor who created the online fund at

Evans, owner of Cosmic Pizza in Hartwell, was shot to death during a robbery attempt June 15. He left a wife and three young children.

Murray said SmoQ restaurant in Springdale is hosting a "Cosmic Pizza Day" on Thursday. Proceeds from pizza sales will go to the Evans family. The address is 275 Pictoria Dr .

Another restaurant is organizing a fundraiser, Murray said.

Donations can be dropped off at the Fifth-Third Bank branch at 9020 Winton Road, near Compton Road. Ask for Kim.

Evans' accused killer, John Deloney, was transferred to the Hamilton County Justice Center Tuesday afternoon. He had been in jail in Indianapolis since turning himself in there on June 19.
