Cosmic Pizza killing: Fundraiser for Richard Evans' family held at Jim Dandy's BBQ

CINCINNATI - A fundraiser for a slain pizzeria owner's family was held Friday at Jim Dandy's BBQ in Springdale.

Richard Evans, who owned Cosmic Pizza in Hartwell, was shot to death in a robbery on June 15.

Jim Emig owns the barbecue restaurant where the fundraiser was held. He said he and Evans became friends over the years in part due to their love of the food served at one another's restaurants.

In addition to their love of food, their shared love of their restaurants was also a topic of discussion, Emig said.

While Evans cherished his beloved Cosmic Pizza, it was his family that meant the world to him.

Emig said he wanted to do something for Evans' family so he decided to throw Friday's fundraiser to benefit them.

"She helped Rich at the pizza parlor, Cosmic," Emig said about Evans' wife. "It's a very, very uncertain future for her and we're hoping that we can raise some money that at least she doesn't have to worry about financial needs immediately."

The event included food, music and door prizes and ended at 10 p.m.

Admission was $25. All proceeds go to the Rich Evans Memorial Fund.
