MadTree Brewing, Fifty West Brewing team up to help Starfire U student create new beer

CINCINNATI - Two Cincinnati breweries are teaming up to help a student with Down syndrome complete his capstone achievement.

MadTree Brewing and Fifty West Brewing are brewing a special wheat beer in collaboration with Michael Makin, a student at Starfire U .

According to its website, Starfire U is a "four-year community building experience for adults with disabilities."

Organizers said the program focuses on helping members build their own social networks through immersive service and collaborative projects.

MadTree brewer Kenny McNutt said he learned of Makin's interest in beer in November. McNutt attended a meeting about Makin's project and while there, the brewery decided to volunteer to design and brew a beer with Makin.

To celebrate Makin's project and unveil the beer, MadTree, Fifty West and Starfire U are holding an event on June 5.

However, before the party can start, Makin and his friends need to figure out a name for the beer. Fans can suggest a name at MadTree's and Fifty West 's Facebook pages.

Tickets are $30 and donors will get a commemorative glass, dinner by the bite, a craft beer tasting and an opportunity to try Makin's new beer.

Tickets can be bought online by going to http://brewreview.eventbrite.com/ .
