CINCINNATI - A Mount Healthy police officer was one of two people seriously injured during a traffic accident in Mount Healthy Sunday afternoon.

Officer Onam Williams was traveling southbound on Hamilton Avenue around 2:30 p.m. when a 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis traveling in a westbound lane on Compton Road collided with his cruiser at the intersection of the two streets, according to the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.

After the initial collision, the Grand Marquis, which was driven by Andrea Nelson, a 28-year-old of Cincinnati, crashed into a building and a utility pole in the southwest corner of the intersection.

Officials with the Mount Healthy Police Department say the officer was responding to an intrusion alarm on Hamilton Avenue so his siren was on at the time of the accident.

Both Officer Williams and Nelson were transported to University of Cincinnati Medical Center to be treated for "non life-threatening injuries."

Officer Williams was listed in stable condition Sunday evening. The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office listed Nelson's condition as "good."

Neither drugs nor alcohol are believed to be factors in the crash.

The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office is handling the ongoing investigation.
