Police: Lauren Spierer Twitter rumors untrue

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Reports that the body of Lauren Spierer has been found are not true, Bloomington police said.

Rumors began circulating Thursday afternoon on Twitter that the missing Indiana University student's body had been found in Brown County that had a man had turned himself in to police.

"They found Lauren Spierer in Brown County. 50 yr old buried her & turned himself in," one person tweeted.

"Lauren Spierer found!" another posted.

"Investigators from the Bloomington Police Department have made contact with law enforcement officials in Brown County who confirm that they are not working anything related to the information being posted," Capt. Joe Qualters said in a news release.

The 20-year-old Indiana University student was last seen walking in Bloomington in the early morning hours of June 3 after a night of partying with friends.

Spierer's birthday is next week.
