Police find couple dead inside condominium

FLORENCE, Ky. - The Boone County Sheriff's Office says the deaths of a married couple in Florence is being investigated as a double homicide.

William and Peggy Stephenson, both 74 years old, were found dead in their home on Sunday.

Deputies were called to the home in the 7400 block of Ridge Edge Court about 1 p.m. after the victims' church, Union Baptist Church, notified a family member that the couple had not attended that morning's service.

The couple lived in The Summits condominiums community, and neighbors in the area said they were shocked to hear the news. William served as a deacon at the church.

"I am just totally shocked at what I have just heard," said 15-year-neighbor Pat Worthington. "It's not like this neighborhood at all. It's just unbelievable."

Police were also surprised to see this sort of crime in this part of town.

"In this neighborhood, to say 'rare' would be an under statement," said Boone Co. Sheriff Deputy Tom Scheben. "We just don't get calls here. I mean it's seldom at best."

Police do not have any suspects at this time, but they are calling the deaths "suspicious."

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (513) 352-3040.
