PINER, Ky - A moment of silence was held Saturday to remember the lives lost by the tornado outbreak that occurred one year ago.
Piner Baptist Church on Madison Pike held an open house giving the community a chance to reflect and remember the devastation that took place on March 2, 2012.
Church members and volunteers were instrumental in helping storm victims get back on their feet.
"We just wanted to have a chance to rejoice that we are still standing," said Amy Heeger with Piner Baptist Church. "Where we are now, it brings tears of happiness because we have come so far. It's just amazing."
Also during Saturday's event, State Senator Damon Thayer presented $1 million check. The federal grant money will extend new water lines to areas in southern Kenton County impacted by the tornado.
