Deputies 'doggedly pursuing' killer

FLORENCE, Ky. - Police are trying to identify a person of interest in connection to the murder of a N.Ky. couple.

Police released surveillance photos of a man they say was seen speaking with Bill Stephenson on May 27 at a truck stop in the 7700 block of Burlington Pike in Florence, Ky.

Bill and Peggy Stephenson were found dead in their home on May 29. The incident is being investigated as a double homicide.

Deputies have interviewed over 150 people in seven states looking for answers in the case.

"There's that missing piece to the puzzle, we've talked to all these people, we haven't eliminated any of them, we haven't necessarily picked out a couple as suspects, our scope right now is very broad." said Tom Scheben, spokesman for the Boone County Sheriff's Department.

Bill ran a truck stop ministry at the Travel Centers of America truck stop in Florence. Deputies say they don't know if the man they're looking for is a truck driver.

"It's very important that we arrest someone, it's more important that we arrest the right person." said Scheben.

Police believe the man in the photo is a person of interest who might provide insight into the case since he was one of the last people seen speaking with Bill Stephenson.

Anyone who can provide information is asked to call the Boone County Sheriff's Department tip line at (859)334-3500 or Crime Stoppers at (513)353-3040.
