COVINGTON, Ky. -- After trying out some ice cream-inspired beers, Graeter's and Braxton Brewing Company have teamed up on beer-inspired ice cream.

The new sweet treat is Stout and Pretzels ice cream, in honor of Oktoberfest Zinzinnati. This variety doesn't taste like beer, per se, but takes cues from Braxton's Dead Blow tropical stout.

"You taste some maltiness, some richness," Braxton's Jonathan Gandolf said. "This beer is brewed with date, so they use some figs in the ice cream, and then you got some chocolate-covered pretzels -- which we all know pretzels pair great with beer."

Braxton's head brewer worked with Bob Graeter on "market research" into the flavors, Gandolf said: He got to be one of the taste-testers throughout the process.

"I love it," he said. "I wasn't sure what I'd think of it, but i absolutely love it -- it's really rich, really sweet."

After this weekend, Graeter's will start selling the new flavor Oct. 1 at its scoop shops and online store while supplies last.
