ELSMERE, Ky. - Police are searching for a man who allegedly sexually assaulted a boy while posing as a police officer near a cemetery in Northern Kentucky this past Sunday.
Officials say the incident occurred at about 6:30 p.m. in a wooded area that borders Elsmere and Erlanger near the Mary Smith Cemetery.
According to police, the victim said the suspect identified himself as a police officer, but was not wearing a uniform and did not show police identification.
The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 25 years old with a cross tattoo in the forearm area. Police say he was wearing light-colored blue jeans with holes in the knees, a baseball cap possibly with a Cincinnati Reds logo and a plaid long sleeve shirt, possibly blue and white.
The suspect is also described as having fresh scratches on his face and hands.
"This one is disturbing," Elsmere Police Chief Tim Thames said. "The person identified themselves as a police officer then committed a violent criminal act by using that guise. So wanted to get this out as soon as we could because we want parents to warn their children that people do not always tell the truth about who they are and not to trust people until they are really sure who they are."
Police say adult witnesses saw the suspect in the area of Yeager Court in Erlanger, Ky.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Elsmere Police Department at (859) 342-7344 or the Erlanger Police Department at (859) 727-2424.
