Erin Cox: Honor roll student punished for being designated driver

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. -- Two weeks ago, high school honor student Erin Cox received a call from a friend who was drunk at a party.

When Erin got off work, she drove to the party to pick up her friend so she wouldn't drive home drunk.  Moments after she arrived, the cops arrived too and busted several kids for underage possession of alcohol.

Erin was cleared by police but North Andover High School demoted her as team captain of her volleyball team and suspended her for five games, saying she violated the district's zero tolerance policy against alcohol and drug use.

The parents of Erin's teammates have started a petition to support her.

"She didn't do anything wrong. She did what she thought was right, and I'm very proud of her," Erin's mother told WBZ News in Boston.
