George Zimmerman defense attorney under fire for 'selfie' photo posted online

George Zimmerman's defense attorney, who already drew criticism for telling a knock-knock joke during opening statements, is in the spotlight again -- this time for a "selfie" posted on his daughter's Instagram page.

The photo of veteran criminal defense attorney Don West eating ice cream with two of his four daughters was posted on the photo-sharing site from the account "mollywestttt" Friday.

A comment below the photo read: "We beat stupidity celebration cones," along with "#zimmerman," "#defense" and "#dadkilledit." The photo and comment have since been removed, and the account has been deactivated.

Zimmerman defense team communications director Shawn Vincent confirmed to CNN the photo came from West's 23-year-old daughter, Molly.

According to CNN, Vincent said it was a tradition in West's family to go out for ice cream together.

Almost immediately after the posting of the photo, negative comments picked up steam and the photo went viral.

Critics say using the word "killed" in the caption for the photo was insensitive, since West is defending the man accused of killing Trayvon Martin.

In a statement, West said, "Sometimes we're deeply disappointed by the things our children do. But we love them anyway, and we move on," CNN reports.

Vincent, who acknowledges the photo reflects on the defense poorly, told CNN:

"It doesn't reflect how Don feels. And we're aware that the themes sure this case are very apparently race, self-defense and gun control and we're aware that none of those things or that debate is going to be resolved in this court room"

"How we conduct ourselves as we move towards whatever the verdict is going to be, we know reflects on all those issues. This photo is completely contrary to what we've tried to more than a year on how to conduct ourselves."
