CINCINNATI - U.S. House Speaker John Boehner (BAY'-nur) says he wants a coherent plan from the head of the Department of Veterans Affairs on VA efforts to reduce the growing backlog of veterans' disability claims.

Boehner on Tuesday sent his second letter in a little over a month to VA Secretary Eric Shinseki, repeating concerns over VA efforts to address the claims.

Boehner said in a separate statement Tuesday that he hasn't seen any evidence a new computer system has led to any improvements or will eliminate the backlog.

Boehner wants Shinseki to quickly provide specific benchmarks, deadlines and progress measurements on the VA's efforts to reduce the backlog and improve accuracy.

A VA spokesman says the agency received the letter and is preparing a formal response to Boehner's request.
