Volunteers are making yellow ribbons for the return of a local mother and father who lost their son in Afghanistan.

Jim Missman and Donna Missman Turner's son, Greg, lost his life when his convoy was ambushed on Wednesday.

The Army Specialist from Pierce Township re-enlisted after 11 years. Specialist Missman served in Afghanistan with the 4th Infantry Division. He was deployed just last month.

Missman's family says he re-enlisted to support his four-year-old.

"I said what can we do for you and he said I'd like to see a lot of yellow ribbons when we come back. We want to see a lot of yellow ribbons in the neighborhood and I said we'll take care of that," said Keith Maupin, who lost his son, Matt, in Iraq.

Among the volunteers is 16-year-old Michelle Thomas.

"It just makes me feel really good that it's one thing I can give back for everything he did and it just makes me feel like I can help contribute a bit in some way," said Thomas.

In his conversation with Jim Missman, Keith Maupin told him that the community is ready to help them in any way they need.

"There's a lot of good people out here and you're not in this by yourself there's a lot of people out here that will help you," said Maupin.
