Cincinnati police are looking for rock-throwing vandals who have struck at least 10 times on Columbia Parkway just west of Columbia Tusculum.
The most seriously injured of the victims is Joyce Baresel.
The 23-year-old woman was riding in a car with a friend early Sunday morning when a rock went through the car window and hit her in the forehead.
She suffered a skull fracture and brain damage. She is in critical condition at University Hospital.
Friends say the young skin care specialist from New York should recover, but it could take a minimum of several months.
They're asking anyone wanting to make a contribution to help offset her expenses to make a contribution to the
Joyce Baresel Fund at any
Fifth Third Bank branch.
The car she was in was hit at approximately 1 a.m. Sunday on Columbia Parkway near Torrence Parkway.
It's not the first report of rocks being thrown at cars in that area and police are asking that anyone with information on suspicious activity there to contact Crime Stoppers at (513)352-3040 or text your tips to (513)352-3050. You could receive cash for your clues.
Longtime friend Terry Ohnmeis says Baresel was known for always having a sassy, fun-loving attitude. He says she would be amazed to know how many friends are by her side during this difficult time.
"The act of stupidity is pretty frustrating for all of us to come to grips with because, why you throw rocks into moving cars on Columbia Parkway is beyond me. But, then, the one in a million shot where one goes into the car and hits her right in the forehead is really unbelievable", says Ohnmeis.
But, he says his friend who he describes as a "spunky spark plug" will bounce back.
