The National Underground Railroad Freedom Center announced an exhibit coming in January. The exhibit is called "Without Sanctuary: Lynching Photography in America."
The exhibit displays pictures of lynchings from the early 1900s that were used as post cards.
The photos were compiled by an antiques collector named James Allen. He published them into a book from which the exhibit gets its name.
The Freedom Center's Youth Development Manager, Charles Davis, explained how Allen gathered the collection.
"He began the process of visiting flea markets, and other collections," Davis explained. "Many of these photographs and post cards were found in scrapbooks. So, people had kept these over 50, 60, 70 years as family heirlooms."
The exhibit has been to Detroit, Chicago and Atlanta, and will be on display in Cincinnati from January 19 through May 31.
