CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Domestic violence victims often suffer in silence, and that's especially true for victims in the Tri-State's Hispanic communities.
Hispanic advocates say cultural differences, distrust of the legal system and language barriers often cause Hispanic women to not report domestic violence.
The Alliance for Immigrant Women and the YWCA debuted a Spanish language video that they hope will break down those barriers and encourage Latina women to turn in their abusers.
"The information that they offer is usually in English or English translated in a way that is difficult for them to feel confident to go and call the police or find help," says Lorena Mora-Mowry, editor of online magazine mujerlatinatoday.com.
"That's important to create a video and program that understands us and the way we think, so we can trust the legal system and the YWCA to continue the process,” she says.
The video will be distributed to agencies that deal with domestic violence in Hispanic communities.
