An investigation is underway after a deadly accident along I-71 in Gallatin County on Wednesday.

Kentucky State Police say a truck driver lost control of his tractor trailer and crashed through a guardrail near Sparta around Noon.

The truck plunged down an embankment. The truck tractor and trailer became detached and the truck overturned. Both parts of the vehicle caught fire.

The driver, Samuel Utomi, of Newnan, Georgia, was ejected from the vehicle, and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Gallatin County Coroner. Officials say Utomi was not wearing a seatbelt.

Officials say the truck is registered in Georgia.

The crash is under investigation by the Kentucky State Police.
