CINCINNATI, Ohio -- A benefit to fight breast cancer brick by brick brought hundreds of people to the Mayerson Jewish Community Center in Amberly Village Sunday.
Bricks taken from demolished buildings were restored and beautified by nearly 300 local artists...much as breast cancer survivors are restored.
That's the idea behind the "Bricks Along the Journey" auction founded by Ellen Ganson, who died of breast cancer three years ago.
"When she was diagnosed with breast cancer she said it felt like a ton of bricks hit her and from that she took a feeling of devastation and changed it into a vehicle of hope," said Beth Goldfarv, a long time friend of Ganson and Executive Director of "Bricks Along the Journey.
"Over eight years of auctions have raised $200,000 dollars and we're very very proud of that," said Goldfarv.
Bricks painted with flowers, animals and all sorts of designs went to the highest bidder Sunday.
All money raised will stay in Greater Cincinnati to help various breast cancer agencies.
